Just like the Escalante, but a little bit thinner and a little bit lighter. The Escalante Racer has a foot-shaped toe box wide enough to fit Correct Toes for most feet. The sole is flat with a slightly beveled toe spring but is zero-drop, so there’s no heel elevation. Compared to most cushioned road running shoes, the Escalante Racer is pretty flexible in all directions. The 22 mm stack height of the Escalante Racer is 2 mm less than the Escalante but is still pretty substantial compared to other shoes in the natural footwear realm. And cushioning will obviously dampen sensory perception and proprioception compared to something more firm.
The lightweight Escalante Racer (6.8 oz) also has a super breathable mesh upper, while the regular Escalante (9.5 oz) comes with a more robust sock-like engineered knit upper. The Escalante Racer probably has the lowest stack height and is the most lightweight and flexible of the current Altra footwear.
